She listens for their loneliness,
holds frightened hands in the dark,
embraces youthful heartache
and delights in their joy.
She finds sun
on long, grey rainy days,
and lights the way
as they stumble into life.
She knows their sorrow,
for it was once hers,
understands their foolish sins-
forgiven with but a smile.
She provides hope,
for she too dreams;
and laughter,
for she is loving.
Great gifts
of wisdom, truth, and courage
are surely these gifts
she gives her children.
